Everything you need to know for your upcoming week

ARIES

An out-of-the-ordinary get-together this weekend should be enjoyable and may represent new options regarding friends, family or an organisation. Avoid impulsiveness towards Wednesday, although if you’re ready for change, you’ll enjoy being spontaneous.

TAURUS

If you’re looking for change in your daily routine, you’ll be pleased with developments this weekend. You may revisit an old haunt or enjoy a reunion. Midweek, be prepared for a surprise or an unusual opportunity – for some at work; for others, health-wise.

GEMINI

Be adaptable! A trip or get-together this weekend may take you into new territory but will also present the chance to do something different. During the week, you may hear unexpectedly from a group or friend, regarding travel, an adventure or study.

CANCER

Change may be unexpected and so if you feel overwhelmed, take breaks when you can. A lovely event this weekend will be stimulating as you step into new territory. During the week, just make sure to double check that developments align with your big-picture goals.

LEO

You’ll appreciate the company of like-minded people this weekend and may enjoy an impromptu event. During the week, you’ll appreciate the chance to get down-to-basics about long-ranging or out-of-the-ordinary changes to areas you share, such as your living space.

VIRGO

You’ll enjoy revitalising your work and health schedule and someone special may help. This weekend work, sports or the chance to do something different will appeal. Someone will surprise you midweek; potentially even romantically on St Valentine’s Day.

LIBRA

You’ll derive a great deal of pleasure from the company you keep this weekend. Some lovely get-togethers may even involve an impromptu event. Someone who can be unpredictable may behave true to form midweek; and prepare yourself for romance!

SCORPIO

A change of schedule may involve a change in your health – or that of someone close to you. The good news is that you’ll feel motivated to boost your health and to make progress through fitness and wellbeing. News midweek may be unexpected.

SAGITTARIUS

You’ll appreciate the opportunity to be more proactive about your wellbeing, and the health of those you love. Artistic Sagittarians should also experience a surge in creativity. Domestic relationships could blossom, but you must avoid stubbornness; be flexible.

CAPRICORN

A trip, news or a get-together this weekend may be unanticipated, but company should be enjoyable. It’s a productive week to boost your environment or home. Be prepared for a surprise at home or with family midweek and to avoid impulsive decisions.

AQUARIUS

The recent Aquarian New Moon will continue to revitalise your life. You should enjoy a social get-together or a trip this weekend. But not everyone will feel as prepared for change as you: a fun but surprising event midweek may require some tact.

PISCES

Chatterbox Mercury will be in your sign until mid-April, putting the focus over coming months on your communications and the chance to reconnect with someone from your past. You may experience surprise news this weekend; and there’s more to come midweek.

Suspecting the FBI itself was behind the attack, Livia reaches out to former marine sniper Dox, and together they assemble a team to tackle the threat. This fast-paced page-turner is from the pen of New York Times bestselling author Barry Eisler.

Gadget

Gillette Heated Razor

The Heated Razor by Gillette aims to deliver the comfort of a ‘hot-towel’ shave in the traditional personal razor format. A warming bar heats up the shaver head to your preferred temperature in under a second, which the designers say helps contour the face throughout your shave for a more comfortable experience. The waterproof razor also boasts wireless magnetic charging and an ‘Intelligent Heat Safety Control System’. Currently only in the prototype phase, having been launched via Indiegogo at $150 (about R2 100) as a test product, it’ll be interesting to see if it lives up to the hype and the price tag, and whether it ever makes it into mass production.

Motoring

Super Supra

The fifth-generation Toyota Supra – and the first to be produced by Toyota GAZOO Racing – is here! Drawing inspiration from heritage models and the 2000GT sports car, the front-engined, rear-wheel drive racer offers enthusiasts the perfect blend of power, agility and precision handling, thanks to a short wheelbase, wide track and low centre of gravity. The 3.0-litre engine is boosted by a twin-scroll turbocharger, producing 250kW and 500Nm of torque and driving the wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. ‘Launch control’ mode helps the car move from rest to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds, and an active differential makes the drive more responsive during both acceleration and deceleration. The obligatory Nürburgring Nordschleife testing honed the handling – but it was also tested in the ‘real world’ on roads around the globe. The first GR Supras should arrive in South Africa by mid-April 2019, with pricing still to be confirmed.

Film

Holmes & Watson

(8 February)
The cast of Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and Ralph Fiennes lead a brand-new Sherlock Holmes caper, this month. Detective Sherlock Holmes (Ferrell) and Dr. John Watson (Reilly) join forces to investigate a mysterious murder at Buckingham Palace. All signs seem to point to Professor James Moriarty (Fiennes), the duo’s longtime nemesis. When new twists and clues begin to emerge, the world’s greatest sleuth and his trusted assistant must try to catch the killer before the Queen becomes the next victim.

Film

What Men Want

(22 February)
Passed up for a well-deserved promotion, sports agent Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) wonders what more she could possibly do to succeed in a male-dominated industry. Seeking help from a psychic, Ali finds herself with the sudden ability to hear what men are thinking after drinking a strange concoction – and uses her newfound powers to beat her obnoxious male colleagues in the race for basketball’s next superstar. Sound familiar? It’s a modern retelling of the 2000 film What Women Want, starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.

THE TREND: THE NEW ANIMAL PRINT

Who doesn’t love a bit of animal print? This season welcomes back the notorious trend, but this time in bold colours, new silhouettes and more versatility.
Animal print is back with a vengeance. Bolder colours, unexpected silhouettes and diverse patterns put a fresh twist on the trend this season.

A staple in most autumn/winter fashion week collections, animal print has migrated to summer in colours, patterns and styles we previously only dreamed of (thank you fashion gods). Just look at Off-White’s snakeskin in battery-acid green, Burberry’s brown cow-print skirts and Roberto Cavalli’s abstract tiger/zebra hybrids – all of which made the classic leopard print look (dare we say it) rather basic on the SS19 runways.

Burberry SS19
Roberto Cavalli SS19
Off-White SS19
Rochas SS19
If extra oomph is something you appreciate, mixing animal prints in unexpected ways will do just that – it’s a surefire way to add quirk to any outfit. More is more is more, so be daring and stand out with the must-have pieces you can shop below.

Decor ideas straight from the art gallery

Take inspiration from the art gallery with strokes of paint on everything from your kitchen accessories to your bedroom pillowcases.

Get the effect of paintbrush strokes without the brush or paint. This new micro trend is fun and brings an artful element into your home. From ceramics to fabrics, these paint-inspired lines are sure to bring the whimsy.
Starting with the bedroom, linen in gentle watercolour brush-stroke patterns will give your room a soft, dreamy feel. Incorporating arty techniques in this way brings the trend across subtly but effectively without the commitment attached to expensive changes such as painting walls or buying artwork. Win! Next up, the kitchen. Fill your kitchen with artful accessories – from mugs to tea towels and napkins. The key here is to add interest to your collection by mixing up the patterns and prints. Perhaps the most obvious room in your home to update with the latest trends is the living room – the most used and public space in your home. To create a comfortable and homey yet stylish atmosphere, incorporate watercolours and painterly effects in lampshades, throws and smaller décor items that really pull a room together.
